Signed on Friday, Kendrys Morales is starting tonight

Kendrys Morales Kendrys Morales

Some guys need a minor league rehab to get into game shape after missing spring training and a long layoff. Kendrys Morales is just gonna start hacking: He’s in the lineup batting sixth in his Twins debut tonight against the Blue Jays.

Morales signed a one-year contract worth a prorated $7.6 million the other day. He’ll presumably be the full-time DH going forward.

To pick up or not to pick up in fantasy. That is the question.

The Twins’ DH slot has actually been their most productive batter so far. It’s been an amalgam of a lot of different players, with a plurality for Josmil Pinto (who so far this year has batted better when he is a DH than when he is catching).

That would have made more sense if I had actually copied the link.

Pulls oblique muscle by his 2nd AB

Swinging at a knuckle ball might just do that.

Drew is out of the Red Sox lineup today with an oblique injury. Can Morales be far behind?

        It’s a Boras conspiracy.

“Hey Guys, since you didn’t get paid like you should have, why not take the year off? Paychecks? Don’t worry, I’ll take care of that…”

It is remarkable that he won’t have any practice time before he faces MLB pitching. That seems like a recipe for a .075 batting average for a month

Oops. Should have signed that qualifying offer after all, Kendrys.

  6. proudlycanadian - Jun 9, 2014 at 4:57 PM

Good news for the Jays. He should be rusty. Hope he enjoys facing a knuckle ball tonight.

Hitting a knuckle ball is easy, just close your eyes and swing real hard.

  7. dluxxx - Jun 9, 2014 at 5:02 PM

He apparently has been facing college and ex-pro pitching for a while now while waiting to sign. I’m sure he’ll be a little rusty, but they may as well plug him in if they’re not going to send him down like Boston did with Drew.

Mistake knuckle ball = BP fastball. Probably better to face Dickey than someone throwing 98mph.

“In shape” is sort of a relative term with Morales.

Hey now! Round was still a shape last I checked.

One for 3 plus a walk. Nothing to be ashamed of there.
