Yep, those star-themed caps are the official Fourth of July caps for MLB this year

Jun 10, 2014, 11:40 AM EDT

Yesterday we saw the leak/tease, today the official announcement. These are the style of caps teams will wear on the Fourth of July:

source:

I dunno. I actually kind of like them for a one-off. I like them better than the ones with the stars and stripes in the actual logo, anyway, and the less said about any camouflage designs the better.

As per usual MLB policy, 100% of the proceeds from sales of these caps will go to the Welcome Back Veterans charity.

Not terrible. I’m so sick of seeing camo that I probably would have yacked if they did that again.

    • historiophiliac - Jun 10, 2014 at 12:37 PM

Thank you for sparing us luxx-yack.

      • proudlycanadian - Jun 10, 2014 at 12:55 PM

On the other hand, the fashion police should have a serious discussion with MLB.

      • historiophiliac - Jun 10, 2014 at 1:39 PM

Did you see the Tigers are doing a Labatt’s promotion? I would totally buy one at the park on the 4th to be obnoxious.

      • proudlycanadian - Jun 10, 2014 at 1:58 PM

I missed that. I no longer drink Labatts. When I buy a case of beer, I get Moosehead.

      • dluxxx - Jun 10, 2014 at 1:39 PM

Nobody wants to see that. Least of all me.

      • historiophiliac - Jun 10, 2014 at 1:41 PM

I got some thumbs down, so apparently we got some votes from the weirdos who visit the disturbing corners of pornhub.

      • thatsnuckinfuts - Jun 10, 2014 at 2:06 PM

        Moosehead is disgusting

        Keith’s is where it’s at

      • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Jun 10, 2014 at 7:06 PM

Keith’s hops brews…incomparable, at least in Canada.

      • historiophiliac - Jun 10, 2014 at 7:25 PM

        A Canadian named Keith?

      • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Jun 10, 2014 at 7:49 PM

Hard to imagine, especially after LA knocked him outta the postseason.

    • 4cornersfan - Jun 10, 2014 at 3:24 PM

How do you know if you are seeing camo or not?

  2. tfbuckfutter - Jun 10, 2014 at 11:43 AM

Those will look amazing on the 75% off table at Fan Attic in September.

    • pjmitch - Jun 10, 2014 at 11:51 AM

      Awesome!!!

  3. hojo20 - Jun 10, 2014 at 11:45 AM

I’d like to see the books on the 100% going to charity.

  4. ud1951 - Jun 10, 2014 at 11:47 AM

I’m not a fan of the one-offs in the first place and as a Cardinal fan, don’t really like that hat. Wouldn’t even buy it at the 90% off table. If they gave it away free at the ball park, I’d give it away.

  5. jarathen - Jun 10, 2014 at 11:49 AM

If they had fit existing logos into bigger stars, maybe, but the stylized stars, and more stars inside, all slapped under the logos, it just looks terrible.

Also, the bill/hat colors are cribbed from Angels’ BP caps. And we all know they look like the Astros’ hats.

I didn’t love the patriotized logos, but they were okay. This is just weird.

    • moogro - Jun 10, 2014 at 1:01 PM

      patriotized, patrioticized, patriocentricity, supercalipatrioticexpialidocious.
As long as it does not have camo, we all know that’s atrocious.

  6. shanabartels - Jun 10, 2014 at 12:29 PM

Setting aside the logo design itself, which is a matter of personal taste (I’m not crazy about it but it could look a lot worse), I suppose the color scheme shown there for the Red Sox and Cardinals looks alright. I mean, those are their colors anyway. But are the Giants supposed to wear that cap with the orange SF on it, which would look pretty ghastly against the red? Or does the SF logo change to a different color for the day? Without seeing the samples for the rest of the teams, it’s hard to say just how weird some of the logos will look.

    • historiophiliac - Jun 10, 2014 at 12:39 PM

Do we have a link to see them all? Did I miss that? I was thinking the same thing: it would work for the Tigers, but I was curious what the Mariners one would look like.

    • asimonetti88 - Jun 10, 2014 at 1:05 PM

      The logos will be white

  7. phantomspaceman - Jun 10, 2014 at 12:33 PM

I’m not looking forward to seeing the Yankees cap.

  8. gbart22 - Jun 10, 2014 at 12:59 PM

I hate one off caps and uniforms and theme caps and uniforms. Wear what you wear and that’s it.

    • asimonetti88 - Jun 10, 2014 at 1:06 PM

      You’re fun.

  9. The Cub Den - Jun 10, 2014 at 1:30 PM

I like them. I like them a lot!

I really dislike when the brim of the cap doesn’t match the, uh, hat part of the hat.

I really have no idea what hat-parts are called.

    • historiophiliac - Jun 10, 2014 at 1:53 PM

I really hate when the brims are white and the hat…uh, hat part of the hat…is dark.

    • jbutry - Jun 10, 2014 at 3:59 PM

      dome?

  11. chris3141084 - Jun 10, 2014 at 1:57 PM

    What about Toronto?

    • 18thstreet - Jun 10, 2014 at 2:09 PM

They’ll have to wear Chief Wahoo. It doesn’t make sense to me, either.

    • JB (the original) - Jun 10, 2014 at 2:09 PM

The Toronto Blue Jays will wear a hat featuring a solid red star to signify the Canadian flag.

      • nbjays - Jun 10, 2014 at 4:17 PM

Solid red star? What is this… Russia?

News flash… there’s no stars of any colour on our flag.

    • moogro - Jun 10, 2014 at 2:54 PM

      They don’t fit the narrative.

  12. JB (the original) - Jun 10, 2014 at 2:06 PM

So, from what I’ve seen, all the AL are blue brim/red hat and the NL are red brim/blue hat All the logos are red/white/blue, not regular team colors. Correct?

  13. jbutry - Jun 10, 2014 at 3:58 PM

The color scheme is cool as an alternative cap for the fourth, but I dont like the star. Sorry ‘Merica.

  14. mikhelb - Jun 10, 2014 at 4:55 PM

    Horrendous.

  15. mikhelb - Jun 10, 2014 at 4:58 PM

If these are made by New Era, now I am more than convinced that New Era is taking revenge after MLB threatened to sue them last year and to drop them altogether as an official brand.

  16. redsoxchamp11 - Jun 10, 2014 at 6:00 PM

Instantly every player thought they were traded to Houston and went all Carlos Zambrano on the clubhouse.

  17. mazblast - Jun 10, 2014 at 6:42 PM

It’s just a way to sell more sh**, like all the “alternate” jerseys, “batting practice” jerseys, different hats, etc. Teams should have one hat, two sets of uniforms, period. The Disneyfication of sports (“How many ways can we repackage the same old cr** to lure the gullible into buying it?”) continues.

  18. slaugin - Jun 10, 2014 at 9:57 PM

These will look real awkward on the Blue Jays and Indians

  19. stlouis1baseball - Jun 11, 2014 at 9:40 AM

I dig em’! And I am a “don’t make any changes”, traditionalist kind of guy.
