Carlos Torres beat himself up (literally) after taking the loss for the Mets

Jun 13, 2014, 12:42 PM EDT

Carlos Torres gave up four runs on seven hits last night to take the extra-inning loss for the Mets.

After Torres finally was removed from the game, pitching coach Dan Warthen came over to offer some encouragement, at which point Torres decided to start punching himself in the head:

“Why are you hitting yourself?!”

“Because I gave up three runs and I’m sad about it.”

“Oh, OK.”

Should I be ashamed that I recognized that number instantly?

I do not know what this means.

I haven’t seen you around in a while. Good to see you are still commenting. that is a code easily recognised by those of us who could afford a nintendo in the 1980s. Which is lots of us now that I think about it. You use that code to skip all the other boxers in the video game “Mike Tyson’s Punch Out”. With it you face Tyson straight off (and get knocked out straight away). Its what I used to know as a “cheat code”

I would probably have done a lot better in school if I did not know that code

Thank you. Now that I know this, I will thumb up…in honor of your wasted childhood.

college education actually but thank you.

        Oh, a southerner, are you?

      • thetoolsofignorance - Jun 13, 2014 at 5:11 PM

Ha. No. Just went to school for a brief period down south. I didn’t last (partly due to nintendo but also due to crippling home sickness and culture shock) and wound up going into business for myself in LA. I’m that annoying wealthy college dropout who’s always telling anti-education anecdotes at family dinners and business meetings. So remember one word-

Everybody’s got a plan, until they get punched in the mouth.

    Tomorrow’s headline…

“Mets place pitcher Carlos Torres on the 15-day DL with concussion symptoms”

    • timmmah10 - Jun 13, 2014 at 3:08 PM

Fortunately for the Mets, it would only be a 7 day DL…
