Quintin Berry had one of the weirdest ejections you’ll see

Journeyman outfielder/speedster Quintin Berry is playing at Triple-A for the Orioles and last night he got ejected from a game and sort of freaked out.

In a very odd scene, Berry singled and then got into some of kind argument with the first-base umpire, at which point he got booted from the game and proceeded to do a home run trot around the bases anyway.

And then he slid into home plate:

Baseball is so weird sometimes.

    what was that?

Dude played in both the 2012 and 2013 World Series, winning a ring last season with the Red Sox.

i mean why he run around the bases and slide at home?

    Mah n*gga :)

    Heres what probably happened:

Berry hit a ling fly ball to RF. Called foul. He thought fair and a HR.

Explains why hed argue with the 1B umpire and why he’d run around the bases

Not even close. He singled. It was clearly fair and it hit the turf on the infield and rolled between 2nd and short. Since the camera work consisted of looking at anything but Berry until he ran round the bases we have no idea what went on at 1st. He was safe by a mile so the reason for the ejection is still a mystery

      • jerze2387 - Jun 13, 2014 at 5:09 PM

i was talking about a previous pitch in the at bat possibly

      • thetoolsofignorance - Jun 13, 2014 at 5:13 PM

that wasn’t apparent from your comment but I see what you mean now. Sure. Could easily be something like that but it sounds from the in game announcer that it was the first pitch he saw in that AB. If its like you say then maybe from a previous AB. this will remain a mystery until the crack HBT investigative team gets a break in the developing story

I think what Jerz means is that the first base ump had previously made a bad call during another at-bat. When Berry eventually got an audience he aired his grievance and was ejected.

      • jerze2387 - Jun 13, 2014 at 5:47 PM

@dondada10 Thank you. exactly what i meant.

Isn’t there an ump who enforces the unwritten rules to block him from crossing the plate?

    • jerze2387 - Jun 13, 2014 at 5:47 PM

Last year there was, but they banned collisions this year. He has to give Berry a lane now

  5. beefytrout - Jun 13, 2014 at 5:41 PM

some of the worst camera work you’ll ever see.

    • clydeserra - Jun 13, 2014 at 6:03 PM

the camera work we see isn’t bad. Its either the director, or the other camera operators that are the problem.

    • yahmule - Jun 13, 2014 at 6:26 PM

      It’s the minors.

    • scatterbrian - Jun 13, 2014 at 8:47 PM

Would you call it Bush League?

      • jwbiii - Jun 13, 2014 at 11:43 PM

Nah, Bush owned an AL team.

That’s some potential managerial talent right there.

“I’m gonna run around all the way to home plate! Nah, I’ll look stupid. Do I go for third? Just go back to the dugout! I’m already at third now, dammit. I might as well keep going. Should I hop on the plate? Just slide. No, wait, ah, here I go…”
