Ben Revere and Marlon Byrd are the cutest

Jun 17, 2014, 12:13 PM EST

Phillies center fielder Ben Revere is the most adorable player in baseball and last night, after a 13-inning victory over the Braves, right fielder Marlon Byrd gave him a piggyback ride in from the outfield.

Here’s the tremendously adorable MLB.com video:

By the way: Revere hasn’t homered in 19 games, so he’s going through a helluva power outage.

Paul Allen rubbing off on you, Aaron?

Well, the Reveres are known for their famous rides.

      Who gave the thumbs down???

      Well played, good sir

He’s not so adorable when he plays for your team. Maybe it’s the fact that he can’t hit, field or throw and doesn’t seem to have any baseball sense. Even though the Twins got nothing for Vance Worley, they still won that trade with the Phillies.

Ben Revere’s average as a Phillie: .295 thru 150 games.

      Just sayin’

      • dluxxx - Jun 17, 2014 at 2:13 PM

Yeah, but his OBP since joining the Phillies is .322. And his OPS is .667. And his K/BB ratio is 59/22.

BUT, he is, as you say hitting .295 and he has 42 stolen bases, which makes up for some of that terrible .345 SLG.

      • DelawarePhilliesFan - Jun 17, 2014 at 2:36 PM

Right, not saying he is a great, but he can get hits, and I would not be surprised if he has a hot streak ahead of him like he did last year.

But yea, I do not see him being better than .700 OPS as an everyday. Maybe a platoon player is best for him

      • schmedley69 - Jun 17, 2014 at 2:39 PM

.295 with zero power or walks. That’s about as hollow a .295 you can get. If he was actually good in the field, and the rest of the team could hit, he might be worth playing every day, but since he can’t judge fly balls, has no arm, and the rest of the offense stinks as well, he is a major liability.

Not to get into hypotheticals, but he’s a solid player on a decent/good team. He needs work in the field, and doesn’t have the best OBP, but he could be a solid regular for a team with corner OFers and a strong lineup 1-6. He hits for an okay average and steals alot of bases (20 so far) and rarely gets caught (2). Also keep in mind Revere is only about 26 years old.

If Trevor May becomes a #3 starter or better, ok maybe the Twins win, but that’s a big if.

      • schmedley69 - Jun 17, 2014 at 2:45 PM

He’s only 26, but he is an uncoordinated klutz out there in the field. I don’t see that improving with age.

they got trevor may (our number 1 prospect at the time) as well, so they definitely won that trade.

So this is a better story than say ” The Phillies kick the snot out of the Braves in 13 innings”

  5. dluxxx - Jun 17, 2014 at 1:15 PM

Uh oh, Gleeman is channeling his inner 13 year-old girl again…

  6. eagles512 - Jun 17, 2014 at 1:18 PM

I hope that was because Revere hurt his leg earlier hitting the wall.

  7. DelawarePhilliesFan - Jun 17, 2014 at 1:48 PM

Why – back in the day, Ty Cobb would give Honus Wagner a piggy-back, and no one would give a glance. They were manly man, not afraid to share there manliness!

The only time a guy should ever (under any circumstances) use the words “adorable” or “cute” is when referring to their little girls.

    • yahmule - Jun 17, 2014 at 3:26 PM

      Ah, that settles it then.

      • stlouis1baseball - Jun 17, 2014 at 3:46 PM

Yeah…I am with you Mule. Tried it numerous times with girls I was seeing/dating. And each time we fell. But (like you)…it didn’t matter as we were buzzed like no other. Which begs the question…
Was it difficult because it was hard to do?
Or was it difficult because we were drunk?

  9. yahmule - Jun 17, 2014 at 3:32 PM

It isn’t easy to run with a grownup on your back, even a comparatively wee one like Ben Revere. I tried to run with this girl on my shoulders once and we both ate it. Thankfully – I guess – we were way too drunk to feel any pain.

“Phillies center fielder Ben Revere is the most adorable player in baseball…”

If this isn’t the strangest starting sentence to a post on this site ever written, then I’m missing something. This is weirder than Craig’s list of most handsome managers… Aren’t you a Twins fan? Maybe it’s that… I don’t know, maybe I’ll Google it later. Probably not. Probably move on and next time I read a post you wrote try not think about you saying Ben Revere is adorable and cute… It will be tough, though. Like watching “24” this season when that Russian guy, the one trying to get Jack turned over to Russia, is on and I hear nothing he says because all I can think about is “what a weird mustache/goatee.”
