Orioles activate Miguel Gonzalez, keep Kevin Gausman in the majors

There was speculation that the Orioles would send prospect Kevin Gausman back to the minors once Miguel Gonzalez was healthy, but today they activated Gonzalez from the disabled list and decided to keep Gausman around.

Instead they’ll send out Josh Stinson, who was designated for assignment. Gausman has turned in back-to-back impressive starts in place of Gonzalez, who was sidelined with a strained oblique muscle.

Obviously the Orioles are hoping that Gausman has finally found his groove versus big leaguers, because the former No. 4 overall pick has big-time upside and a mid-90s fastball.

Gausman deserves to stay. Based on a very small sample size,(the just ended series against the Jays), I think that he should replace Tillman in the rotation.

Jiminez would be the best choice to replace, however he’s making so much money it may be hard to pull the trigger on that one.

Upon reflection, I agree with you.

Jiminez, has pitched much better this month (still painful to watch him at times). Clearly, common sense would say that Gausman needs to remain regardless of who should be sent down. Additionally, I think that the Orioles have picked the best guy to send down.

5 hits and 0 runs over 6 innings with 5 strikeouts and just 1 walk. Looks like keeping Gausman was the right move for the moment.

They need to put Gausman in the rotation and tell him he’s there for the rest of the season no matter what.
