When asked why he was held out of tonight’s starting lineup against the White Sox, Orioles slugger Chris Davis told reporters that it was “probably because I’ve been sucking lately.” He has to feel a little bit better about himself right now.

Davis delivered a pinch-hit walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning tonight to lead the Orioles to a dramatic 6-4 win over the White Sox. Chicago’s closer, Ronald Belisario, was protecting a one-run lead to begin the inning, but he quickly got into trouble after giving up a leadoff single to Steve Pearce and hitting Adam Jones with a pitch. He struck out Nelson Cruz for the first out, but Davis pinch-hit for Delmon Young and sent the Camden Yards faifthful home happy with this blast to right-center field:

Davis entered tonight’s action with just four hits in his last 36 at-bats. Talk about your slump-busters.

Gutsy call by Buck pinch hitting for Delmon Young who already had 3 hits in the game (2 singles and a double). And yes I understand matchups but come on: a guy hitting near .300 in part time duties with 3 hits on the day, and you pull him for a guy hitting .221 who has been putrid as of late? Major testicular fortitude by Buck. Kudos.

This post would be greatly, GREATLY enhanced by giving us the ChiSox feed as well. Nothing better than a devastated Hawk.

I actually had tickets to this game and passed due to a desire to save some money and not have to rush our butts off to get to the stadium. (I live about 45 min out of the city and the girlfriend didn’t even get home until 5 after the game started). Really upset we decided to pass.

However, I am REALLY happy for Chris. He took his benching like a man, and instead of wining and crying about how the world owes him a spot, and how he’s too much of a star to get benched, he took all the blame, and used that to fuel his later success. The team has been playing rather well as of late (Other than that one damn homerun to the Yanks) and I hope they are able to get on a nice hot streak leading into the All-Star break. Go Birds!
