Starling Marte leaves game with concussion symptoms

Jun 24, 2014, 10:24 PM EDT

Pirates left fielder Starling Marte banged his head into the knee of Rays infielder Sean Rodriguez while trying to steal second base in the top of the fifth inning Tuesday. A little white later, the Bucs tweeted this …

An extended absence seems likely even if the concussion is deemed mild. Pittsburgh can roll with the hot-hitting Josh Harrison in left field with second baseman Neil Walker recovered from an appendectomy.

I hope he’s okay and back to playing soon.

The “Dream Team” didn’t even last 9 innings!

The Pirates are so much fun. I hope they climb back into the chase of desire (and power).

Maybe next year MLB can add rule 7.14. No runner shall slide head first into any base. Thus further preventing head injuries. It’ll be as dumb as Rule 7.13.

I also hope Starling will be back on the field sooner than later as a lifetime Pirates fan I hope they can move up in the standings this year last year was so much fun and getting to the playoffs for the first time since 1992

That was exactly what happened to Justin Morneau. It’s taken five years for him to bounce back to where he is today. Concussions can be tricky things, and I hope Marte comes back quickly and free of any lingering effects.
