Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez enlisted the services of teammate and fellow outfielder Ryan Braun to petition National League Home Run Derby captain Troy Tulowitzki on his behalf in the hopes of being added to the team, MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy reports. According to McCalvy, Gomez “really wants to do it.”

Gomez, 28, has 13 home runs in 345 plate appearances this season. He belted 24 last season, when he made his first All-Star team. Only two roster slots have been filled for the National League thus far: by Tulowitzki, and by Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.

Brian McCann was unavailable for comment.

I’d also like to see a pig in the Home Run Derby. It would be interesting to see what it could do.

        Don’t give Geico any ideas.

Animals in the Derby would definitely make it gooder. No doubt.

And to round out the NL Home Run Derby roster, it’s Darwin Barney!

Seriously, though, Carlos Gomez deserves to be in the HR derby about as much as Carlos Zambrano deserves another MLB contract.

I’m guessing you don’t watch Carlos Gomez play much then?

      • derklempner - Jul 7, 2014 at 3:23 AM

I live in Wisconsin, so I see him play about every day. He’s not a big power hitter, although he is capable of 20+ per season. I just don’t think he’s the type of player that belongs in the HR derby.

This is turning out to be one helluva competition. Tulo, Stanton, possibly Puig, CarGo, wow. And that’s just the NL.

This douche would flip his bat after every homer.

Gomez does get the most bang for his buck when he pulls the trigger! He’s got the most violent swing I’ve ever seen, especially on a fastball count. Don’t see how he has not blown out his lumbar already. He is definitely Derby material
