Edwin Encarnacion had to be helped off the field due to a leg injury

Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion required the assistance of two Blue Jays trainers to leave the field after knocking in a run against the Athletics in Saturday night’s game. He beat out what otherwise would have been a ground ball double play, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reports. Adam Lind ran for him and stayed in the game at first base.

Update (10:55 PM): The Blue Jays are calling the injury right quadriceps soreness, per Davidi.

Losing Encarnacion for any amount of time is a huge blow to the Blue Jays, who entered the day a half game behind the Orioles for first place in the AL East. Encarnacion is tied with Nelson Cruz for the major league lead with 70 RBI. He has hit 26 home runs and is slashing .277/.368/.591.
