Reds lose Brandon Phillips, Billy Hamilton to injuries

Jul 9, 2014, 10:33 PM EDT

The Reds are one of the hottest teams in the majors and beat the Cubs on Wednesday night by a score of 4-1, but there won’t be much of a celebratory mood in the clubhouse afterward …

Billy Hamilton tweaked his hamstring on a seventh-inning at-bat after walking and stealing a base in the bottom of the third and smacking an RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth. Brandon Phillips rolled over his left hand while attempting to make a play on an Anthony Rizzo grounder in the top of the eighth. Phillips looked to be in a good deal of discomfort as he walked off the field with a trainer stabilizing his left hand and wrist.

The Reds wrap up a five-game series with the Cubs on Thursday afternoon and it’s a safe bet that neither player will be available. Then comes a hugely-important three-game weekend set against the Pirates.

Based on his days with the now-defunct Cincinnati Post, I don’t take Rosecrans’ word for anything. IMO he wasn’t (and probably isn’t) qualified to write about anything except the team’s post-game buffet.

Yeah Rosecrans is quickly becoming a huge DB. I guess the blue check mark he got on twitter blew his ego up to match his belly. As much as I hated Phillips’ blowing up on him last year in Dusty’s office, maybe Phillips realized then how much of a DB Rosecrans was. Follow Rosecrans on Twitter for a couple of days and look at how he responds to people. Has DB written all over it.

It seems a lot of Cincinnati media folks are becoming DB’s. C Trent, John Fay, Lance McAlister…..You ask them a question on twitter and they respond basically telling you how stupid you are for asking such a question.

You have to keep in mind that half of Cincinnati fans are barely capable of forming coherent thought (see e.g. constantly complaining about Votto). They deserve all the snark that they get.

C Trent is excellent. John Fay and Mark Sheldon (MLB beat writer) have improved significantly this season; in years past they seemed too deferential to Dusty Baker’s nonsensical decision-making.

The only really bad Reds reporter is Paul Daugherty, and he devolved to professional troll years ago

There was a make up game yesterday as part of a double header. Reds going for the 5 game sweep tomorrow.
