Marco Scutaro has finally returned from the disabled list. Per the Giants official Twitter, the club has activated him from the 60-day DL and designated Brandon Hicks for assignment. Scutaro will be in Saturday’s starting lineup for the Giants.

Scutaro, 38, has yet to play in a game this season due to chronic back discomfort. He is earning $6 million this season, the second year of a three-year, $20 million deal signed with the Giants in December 2012. Last season, Scutaro slashed .297/.357/.369 in 547 plate appearances.

Hicks, despite playing above-average defense at shortstop, didn’t hit nearly enough to merit relegation to the bench. In 242 plate appearances, Hicks slashed .162/.280/.319 with eight home runs and 22 RBI. Hicks, 28, joined the Giants as a minor league free agent back in November.

The lineup just got smarter ABs. Now if we could do something about Blanco. The poor guy’s a seventh inning replacement for defense at best. For second year in a row, he’s gotten too many ABs with the usual too painful to watch results. Can’t believe Bochy/Sabean let this happen second year in a row. We need Pagan insurance. Former No. 1 pick Gary Brown is stuck in the minors with a hole in his swing nobody seems to be able to fix. He should be up and contributing on the big club by now. His defense is first rate. Too bad the rest hasn’t come around. Organizational failure for a guy they spent a No. 1 on and have paid millions to and is still in the minors.

Gary Brown’s swing hasn’t been fixed because he thinks there is nothing wrong with it, the kid is a tool and uncoachable, Giant fans should give up on ever thinking Brown is ever going to amount to anything.

Someone will pick up Hicks! Not a bad player at all! I’ve seen much worse start in MLB at SS! Ronny Cedeno to name just one! LoL

Sucks to hear. Hicks is a stud. Same mold as Brendan Ryan. He’ll find a home.

Scutaro back is too little (and by too little I mean “nothing”)to late for this group of light hitting high schoolers. C’mon football.
