VIDEO: Billy Hamilton goes all Matrix to avoid a tag

Billy Hamilton matrix

There’s increasing evidence that Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton is not of this world. For instance, watch this ridiculous play last night against the Pirates.

Hamilton dropped down a bunt to lead of the bottom of the first inning. It looked like an easy play for first baseman Gaby Sanchez, but Hamilton somehow managed to wiggle around the tag and dive head-first into first base for a single. Watch it. I promise you’ll like it.

Amazing stuff. You could almost say that he became unstuck in time. Hamilton went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored last night and is batting .285/.318/.424 with 29 extra-base hits (including five home runs) and 37 stolen bases over 88 games this season. He’s been a .300 hitter since mid-April and has played excellent defense in center field. The 23-year-old speedster has quickly become one of exciting players in the game.

Whoa. Also, the ump is tremendous on this play, getting two close calls right in two seconds.

      good point

One of my favorite players to watch. He hit a stand-up triple against the Cubs (unfortunately) that was unlike any triple I’ve ever seen. He was jogging around the bases. And this isn’t some stiff that only offers speed. He can actually play the game.

Yeah, he’s a deadly combination of speed + great baserunning + smart routes in CF.

Unstuck in time? Zathras agrees with you, but Zathras thinks you are full of crap.

Cheers for any Babylon 5 reference. Many more for Zathras, too.

I used to do that to my friends as a little kid. To do it in the Major Leagues is unbelievable.

Gaby shouldn’t even feel embarrassed. People aren’t supposed to be able to do that.

    • The Almighty Cabbage - Jul 12, 2014 at 3:12 PM

People AREN’T able to do that. Hamilton just might be an automaton.

That is some impressive quick thinking along with great athleticism!

Billy Hamilton is the most exciting player in the majors. I can’t think of anyone else that I would want to watch more than him.

If Matheny were smart, Billy Hamilton would be named to the All-Star roster. They’re already gonna have guys they don’t need, why not add someone that could be used as a pinch runner just once in the game. That’s a hell of a weapon to pull off the bench in the 7th or 8th of a close game, and if the opportunity doesn’t arise, no harm in keeping him on the bench.
