Myrtle Beach Pelicans GM Andy Milovich has come up with an interesting way to raise prostate cancer awareness

Jul 20, 2014, 10:35 PM EDT

Well, this is a strange one, though it may prove to be a creative way to raise awareness for prostate cancer. ESPN’s Darren Rovell reports that Andy Milovich, GM of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (the Single-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers), has offered to have a prostate exam while singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” in front of an entire stadium of fans if the Facebook page of a 10-year-old cancer patient gets 10,000 likes by the start of Thursday’sĀ game.

The Pelicans were already promoting prostate cancer awareness for Thursday’s game against the Frederick Keys with a foam finger giveaway to the first 1,000 fans to show up to the ballpark. Suffice it to say that Milovich’s stunt may encourage more fans to show up. We’ll certainly be talking about it and waiting for video — or perhaps just audio only — of the song performance.

Certainly one of the best move by a GM for a long time.

Singing with a hand in his butt?

    Kermit already did it.

I’d be more likely to stay home for that. I have absolutely no desire to watch a grown man get fingered.

There is something weird about this and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Mr Babar beat him to it, albeit with a different song.

I have prostate cancer right now. You can simply do a blood test to see your psa levels. That tells you more than anything a finger in the rectum can.

    Let’s not over anal-yze this.

    Go Pelicans!

1000 foam fingers to be given away? Given the promotional tie-in, I don’t want to know where those fingers have been.

I realize it would not garner the attention of having a guy sing while having a finger in the behooten, but they could just play a selection of tunes from some of the musicians that died from prostate cancer, Johnny Adams, Frank Zappa, Johnny Ramone, and lots more.
