VIDEO: Andrelton Simmons did something ridiculous again

Jul 21, 2014, 9:15 PM EDT

Everybody knows that Andrelton Simmons is a fantastic defensive shortstop, but sometimes it’s nice to get a reminder. Look at Simmons show off some remarkable athleticism to get a forceout at second base in the top of the fourth inning against the Marlins this evening:

Not only does Simmons change direction on a dime to make the stop, but he has the presence of mind to get the out at second base, too. That’s…just not fair.

“Who are 6 shortstops that play better defense than Derek Jeter, Alex?”

who are 5 short stops who aren’t better at defense than Andrelton Simmons, and Andreton Simmons?

      • SocraticGadfly - Jul 21, 2014 at 11:50 PM

Uhh, that’s just wrong on the Wiz, @Clydeserra.

Have Simmons check in with us in a decade. Then we’ll talk if he’s the long-term equal, let alone the idea that he might be more than.

Watchin this guy play really made me a proud Braves fan. Certainly one of the best shortstops in Baseball.

Even if you hate the Braves you gotta love this guy. That kind of defensive ability is awesome.

I’d see Simmons play almost every night if the Braves game were still on TBS. Grrrrr,

I’m actually sort of glad that he didn’t make that throw to first. If he had, I think that I’d be permanently jaded for every future play I saw by a shortstop. “Oh you think that was good, I saw the one time that Andrelton Simmons laughed in the face of god”

    Infinite fun.

What a bum! He bobbled the ball on the transfer! LOSER!

    /sarcasm (dude is dirty!)

That was a phenomenal play, but just so we’re all clear, if he would have gotten the double play throwing from his ass, I would have bought a Simmons jersey. Holy hell.

There isn’t a play Simmons doesn’t think he can make. It’s that sort of mentality that makes him special.
