Twins designate Matt Guerrier for assignment

Matt Guerrier began this week with a nice-looking 2.67 ERA in 26 appearances for the Twins, but a 12/8 K/BB ratio in 27 innings showed that he was anything but impressive and then the 35-year-old right-hander got knocked around for four runs in an ugly outing Tuesday night.

That inflated his ERA to 3.86 ERA and now the Twins have designated him for assignment, ending the reunion with a player who was a very dependable setup man in Minnesota from 2005-2010.

To replace Guerrier on the roster and in the bullpen the Twins called up Triple-A reliever Ryan Pressly, who spent all of last season in the majors as a Rule 5 pick. He’ll work middle relief.

Trade him to the Tigers for a month’s worth of pizza.

YES! See you later Matty, when you’re having a successful season with some other team like EVERY OTHER PITCHER we trade or drop. Somebody PLEASE name 3 good things that I haven’t considered about the Twins pitching coaching staff. I want to be wrong about Rick Anderson’s coaching prowess but I think is it complete crapola.

      1. Nathan blossomed after getting here
      2. Santana was never the same once he left
      3. The rejuvenation of Phil Hughes

See also: Jesse Crain & Kevin Slowey. Both seemed like talents worth holding onto (especially compared to some of the pitchers they were trotting out), but it was smart of the Twins to let them walk.

Guerrier’s career is winding down (he’ll likely pass through waivers unclaimed), and the Twins have a ludicrous surplus of relievers. Nothing to be alarmed about.

With the exception of Dozier and Suzuki, the whole damn team should be designated for assignment.

I was at the game Tuesday, and I have to say I was not as supportive as MN fans are supposed to be. Blame me for the four runs, but having his Wise Old Clubhouse Leader Experienced Sepia Master butt at the far end of the bullpen bench right next to Burton was galling from Day One. There was no call for that commitment to mediocrity by Ryan or Anthony other than letting Gardy have his comfy veterans.

A weeks worth of pizza would be more appropriate.

lets see, kubel, bartlett, and guerieer all made the team out of spring training and now all 3 all gone, shocking….shocking how this inept franchise continues to run with lackluster ownership all the way down to the bad coaching staff, how gardenhire continues to keep a job is beyond me, he makes questionable moves, his pitching coach is terrible, this team is a joke, 4 year in a row over 90 losses im sure and gardy will most likey get an extentsion

That’s what I was looking for happytwinsfan. Thanks.
