Five teams are showing interest in Matt Kemp

Jon Heyman reports that five teams “are said to have shown interest, or at least talked to” the Dodgers about Matt Kemp. The identities are unknown.

It may be that the Dodgers have the least interest in him given that they have a glut out outfielders, none of which are really playing in the position to which they’re best-suited at the moment. Still, moving Kemp could be tough. His production, while good at times this season, is nowhere near the level it was back when he earned te contract that is paying him another $107 million through 2019.

Nice report. Who are the 5 teams? If you are specific enough to know it’s exactly 5 teams how do you not list the teams?

      One word – Heyman

    • apkyletexas - Jul 25, 2014 at 7:09 PM

I heard 3 of the teams were the Tigers, Giants, and Pirates.

Unfortunately, that was the Hanshin Tigers, the Yomiuri Giants and the Nishi Nippon Pirates from the Japanese league.

      • apkyletexas - Jul 25, 2014 at 10:08 PM

…and the Nishi Nippon Pirates haven’t fielded a team since 1950, so not real good prospects there probably…

DAE look at the headline and think”is that the Scott Boras 5 teams,or no one was interested at all”? Then when I open the link it says Jon heyman in in the opening.
      Of course it does.

  2. proudlycanadian - Jul 25, 2014 at 5:02 PM

Is Boras the agent for Kemp?

Are any of them MLB teams?

    • historiophiliac - Jul 25, 2014 at 10:54 PM

      Hey! >:(

  4. pbastille - Jul 25, 2014 at 5:07 PM

That’s about the same number of teams interested in Bastardo. How the mighty have fallen…

  5. kiwicricket - Jul 25, 2014 at 5:09 PM

It’s time for the Dodgers to threaten to release their pics of Red Sox management in compromising positions.

The Sox floated the idea of circulating pics of Ned Colletti’s hair hat strapped to a lamb wearing high heels covered in olive oil…and look what happened.
    It’s payback time.

    • RonKarate - Jul 25, 2014 at 5:26 PM

Leave it to somebody from New Zealand to bring up something sexual about lambs.

  6. icanspeel - Jul 25, 2014 at 5:33 PM

Breaking news, there are some teams interest in some player!

  7. akgobears - Jul 25, 2014 at 5:33 PM

To any team that may consider trading for Kemp needs to realize this is not a team player and his own words make that clear….he is an individual player more interested in his own agenda than he is of his team and quite frankley it shows….

    • stercuilus65 - Jul 25, 2014 at 9:26 PM

BS, unless working hard to come back from several injuries and stating his desire to want to play is not being a “team player”.

    • 2docsmd - Jul 25, 2014 at 11:07 PM

Really? Where do you come up with this BS? All he wants to do is play everyday in centerfield…They have a glut of OFers and they are trying to get Joc Pederson up from AAA. No one questioned him being a “team player” pre injuries and 2 seasons ago when he was robbed of the MVP award by that cheat Braun. He still is only 29 years old. If you don’t have anything decent to say, just be quiet.

WHAT 5 TEAMS? Heyman just acting like he is somebody???

  9. jiffylube131 - Jul 25, 2014 at 5:39 PM

Is the article for real????? Its two paragraphs long and there are 4 typos!!!! And no information whatsoever about any details regarding Kemp. What an embarrassment for NBC

    • jiffylube131 - Jul 25, 2014 at 5:51 PM

How can you thumbs down me haha. I logged in from my work comp just to rip this embarrassing article and I get thumbs downs?!?!?

    • jwbiii - Jul 25, 2014 at 8:14 PM

jiffylube, Let me explain something about the internet to. Go back to the top. Do you see that “Jon Heyman reports” is in a different color? That’s called a “hyperlink.” If you click on it, you will able to read Heyman’s story, and get at least some of the details.

    The 5 teams:

Word is, via, which first suggested Kemp’s openness for change, is that they’ve checked in with the Mariners, Rangers and Red Sox to gauge interest. Two other teams, one in the NL, is said to have shown interest. Yet, it may not be so easy. He has $117 million to go through 2019.

I have a hard time seeing the Rangers and Red Sox are 2 of the 5. I am sure the Dodgers are willing to take part of the Kemp salary.

    Free Joc Pederson!

  12. sidelineshot - Jul 25, 2014 at 6:17 PM

    Dear Magic Johnson,

Team X is willing to take on Matt Kemp if you would only pay a share of his salary dictated by the following equation:

Assumption: h is greater than zero. Ok?

    df/dt = lim (f(t+h) – f(t))/h
    = 100 million

“Five teams are showing interest in Matt Kemp”

    Including the Dodgers

  16. fearthehoody - Jul 25, 2014 at 10:20 PM

Great reporting!! My source says 8 teams, but I won’t list them either.

    • slappymcknucklepunch - Jul 25, 2014 at 11:40 PM

My sources only listed four, but he said if I give him my routing number he would let me guess.
Plus he said he was some kind of royalty.

This is the type of article usually behind a paywall at espn so be happy.

    • gloccamorra - Jul 26, 2014 at 6:38 PM

You have to pay for that ESPN “insider” stuff?

  18. bigguy54 - Jul 26, 2014 at 1:08 AM

As an M’s fan I am embarrassed to say one of our fans thought a trade of Walker for Kemp would be a good idea. I have no idea why so many all of the sudden want to trade Walker, but some would trade him for a one year rental player. I think these are the same guys who have jumped on the bandwagon because they are winning, not all, but some. Even though he would help short term, he would be a liability long term. We have young players who will be ready in 2 years. It’s probably the same guys who complain about every player that leaves and has success on other teams. I just shake my head reading some of their comments.
