I have had this conversation with fellow baseball fans a few times. Excellent point made in the video. Enjoy

    Ugh! Step into it!

    “Robin Young”?

I don’t agree with this take. People didn’t vote for these guys to issue a “rebuke” to steroid users. They voted them because they thought they were worthy. Yes, that’s in part because they thought they were clean, but I really doubt anyone thought, “I better vote for Greg Maddux in order to send a message to Roger Clemens.”

I’m not aware of whispers about Biggio’s PED use and I’m pretty confident he’ll enter the HoF next year. Bagwell’s numbers may be similar to Thomas’ but Thomas was always, rightly or wrongly, regarded as a better player. I think if Bagwell were regarded as highly as Thomas, he’d have enough support to get in despite the (completely unsubstantiated, in his case) PED whispers.

Just to be clear — I think it’s unfair to keep Bagwell out and I think (just a guess) that he’d have gone in on the second ballot without the PED taint.

There are a few prominent BBWAA voters who have suggested that because Biggio was a teammate of Ken Caminiti, he is automatically suspect. That’s what most of the whispers about him boil down to–guilt by association.

I disagree with Craig for other reasons. I’ve noted before that I think La Russa and Torree both knew more about some of their players’ PEDing issues than they’ve publicly admitted. So, no, this isn’t a rebuke at all.

Rather, it’s a condoning by the Veterans Committee, or at a minimum saying its members don’t really care.

Wake me back up when they vote Marvin Miller in.

Mgrs did not take PED’s, Mgrs are paid to win and they just put their best players on the field.
