Neil Walker turned a fantastic double play last night

Jul 29, 2014, 8:55 AM EDT

Jordy Mercer‘s glove-flip to Neil Walker in the fifth inning of last night’s Pirates-Giants game was not on target. But Walker still managed to turn it. How? Two amazing feats: (1) barehanding the flip, which a lot of guys might have missed; and (2) managing to turn and get anything at all on this throw to first base to complete the double play.

Heck, make it three things: keeping his foot on the bag and not relying on a hop or a neighborhood play. Just super impressive:

Walker has been watching that latest Andrelton Simmons bare-hand nab highlight reel and thinking “I can do that!”

    Turns out he’s right.

    Incredible throw.

the pure laziness down the first base line was nearly as amazing… How much do we need to pay these guys to run out ground balls?

Michael Morse is 6 foot 5 inch, 245 pounds. Like to see you move that kind of frame any faster. You’d be ripping ligaments out all over the place.

He did a great job shifting his weight at the exact time he needed to. When he planted his foot for that split second, it gave him the balance he needed to make that awesome throw. Good stuff!

Pretty impressive for a guy who was a catcher in high school.
