The Dodgers are interested in Joaquin Benoit

Jul 30, 2014, 1:30 PM EDT

This would make a lot of sense for the Dodgers:

Why San Diego would balk at that I have no idea. They are not poised to be competitive with L.A. any time soon so that whole “in the division” thing wouldn’t figure to be much of an issue. Also worth noting that the Padres’ current GM-by-committee and the shelf life of relief pitchers means that no one would be likely to live long in their current positions if such a trade were to happen.

Or, perhaps, it’s just leverage by the Padres to try to get the Dodgers to overpay.

is there a player available – or even unavailable, for that matter – that the Dodgers AREN’T interested in? Okay, okay, maybe Ryan Howard….

I’d say leverage if anything… Padres have a knack for finding relievers so they should flip Benoit while he is hot.

Perhaps they think they can get something better from the Tigers for his return.

I like it, if we don’t give up Seager, Urias, Pederson, Lee, Guerrero, and this years new draft pick.
