Royals could lose Eric Hosmer for month with stress fracture

Eric Hosmer Eric Hosmer

A disappointing day for the Royals got worse late Thursday night, as the team discovered that first baseman Eric Hosmer could miss 3-4 weeks with a stress fracture in his hand.

It’s an especially poorly-timed injury with the trade deadline having just passed. Worse, the Royals recently traded Danny Valencia to the Blue Jays for catcher Erik Kratz, denying them their best fallback option at first base. They’ll most likely turn to Raul Ibanez for now. They could later explore a deal for Boston’s Mike Carp or Seattle’s Corey Hart once waivers go through.

Hosmer has had a disappointing year, but he was the Royals’ best player of late, hitting .377/.436/.551 with two homers in 21 games this month. Ibanez is hitting .209/.244/.372 in 43 at-bats since joining the Royals and .167/.255/.287 in 209 at-bats this year.

Hosmer had a great bounce back last year, and was doing average this year. The Royals really needed a bat at the deadline. Now they really really need a bat. Start your claims.

Hosmer has barely been replacement level this season. I’d hardly call that average.

Yeah I guess he’s not very good this year, but picking it up lately apparently.

Remember when the Royals had 9 guys in the top 100 prospects….yeah I don’t remember either.

Why does everyone keep writing like Danny Valencia is a key component, and hasn’t played for 5 teams in the last 3 years?

Because his oranges are so tasty and everyone knows how important vitamin C is?

It’s the Royals so nobody really cares. They’ve been irrelevant since George Brett retired. Did anybody really think they’d challenge the Tigers? Exactly

go be an A-hole somewhere else

Big whoop. It’s not like the Royals couldn’t put anyone else at first and get the same production.
