See your team’s logo Star Wars-ized

Aug 1, 2014, 4:32 PM EST

Via, well, about a million other places who saw this before I did comes a cool link to a graphic designer’s Instagram page. The content: MLB team logos done in Star Wars fashion. One example, which pleases me:

The Braves as Boba Fett is not just cool looking, it’s appropriate. They’re both really cool, but they both meet their end ignominiously and prematurely.

Hmm. The Jawa Twins huh? It couldn’t have been Luke and Leia? C’mon now. I’m a bit disappointed.

    • dluxxx - Aug 1, 2014 at 4:51 PM

But at least the Tigers got Jabba.

Where was Admiral Ackbar for that whole Marlins stadium thing? He of all people should know a trap when he sees one.

    • tearlw - Aug 1, 2014 at 4:56 PM

He’s stuffed and mounted in the sculpture in center field.

    • Francisco (FC) - Aug 1, 2014 at 9:38 PM

It’s thematically appropriate. Ackbar only declared “It’s a trap” after the Rebels were well and truly screwed… kinda like the people of Miami and their stadium.

Drath Vader Yankees, .. who didn’t see that coming?

  4. tearlw - Aug 1, 2014 at 4:55 PM

Sweet! We get Darth Vader! Que the Imperial March! Dun, dun, dun. Dun, duh, dun. Dun, duh, dun.

“This deal keeps getting worse” – Lando to Sandy Alderson.

  6. lilgurgi - Aug 1, 2014 at 4:59 PM

Disappointing. I was thinking of so much more possibilities when I clicked on that link. Some of the logos (Philly, Cincy for example) are just the logo in front of a Star Wars pick. If you’re gonna go out on a limb and do something like this, go out on a limb and live it up. Don’t hold on to the trunk and stick your leg out slightly.

I am quivering in anticapation for the cool Star Wars graphic designs you are ready to show us.

Critics are to designers what dogs are to lamp-posts.

As excited as I am that Milwaukee is now the “Qui-Gon Jinns,” it seemed like he really dropped the ball not making it The Milwaukee Canteenas. Or even that Tatooine Canteena. Stick with the booze, it’s what we know.

I’m impressed that he managed to make the Cleveland Indians logo even more offensive:

“Yousa thinking Chief Wahoo ganna die? “

    • El Bravo - Aug 1, 2014 at 5:21 PM

That is the best one by a long shot b/c it makes a statement in both the star wars universe and in the real life baseball universe.

      • yahmule - Aug 2, 2014 at 10:51 AM

I tend to think the other 29 only exist because of Chief Jar Jar.

  9. partiallattice - Aug 1, 2014 at 5:10 PM

But Prince Fielder now plays for the Rangers? Why is he on the Tigers logo?

    • tearlw - Aug 1, 2014 at 6:47 PM

His neck hurts so much you’d think Princess Leia was choking him out with a chain.
      Too soon?

PS: Princess Leia in the slave bikini, amirite?

    • jwbiii - Aug 2, 2014 at 12:40 AM

      Joba, Jabba. Get it?

  10. El Bravo - Aug 1, 2014 at 5:22 PM

My favorite baseball team and my favorite star wars character. Gotta love it. All of these are pretty awesome though. The Cubs are just so darn cute!

  11. natstowngreg - Aug 1, 2014 at 6:04 PM

Some of them are pretty cool. In particular, the Cubs and Giants. Yankees and Dodgers are appropriate.

Hate the Nats logo. Should have gotten a Senator, or maybe an Imperial military officer, instead of some relatively obscure monster. That would have been more appropriate for Washington.

    • tearlw - Aug 1, 2014 at 6:50 PM

How dare you call Davey Johnson a relatively obscure monster?!

If you’re mad about anything, it should be that they didn’t pick Chewie for the Nats. Jayson Werth is a laser crossbow away from being a lookalike.

Mark Shapiro is rumored to be a Star Wars fan. Maybe this will horrify him enough to be rid of chief wahoo.

    • dsaverno - Aug 1, 2014 at 9:36 PM

Nice, good one. I clicked on the link pleading ‘no jar jar, no jar jar’ and what did I see? An escapee from a dr. Seuss wet dream with Indian feathers hanging down. Sad. So sad.

  13. skerney - Aug 1, 2014 at 8:00 PM

As a Gungan, I find Chief Jar-Jar insensitive.

    • tearlw - Aug 1, 2014 at 10:27 PM

But, he’s honoring you! You should feel grateful.

BTW: How loose are the slots at your Gungan casino?

  14. jimatkins - Aug 1, 2014 at 11:11 PM

Erick Aybar’s nickname on Halos Heaven is The Admiral!!!! NO JUSTICE!!!!!! Amidala Angels? I admire alliteration as much as the next guy, but that is lame.
