Behold the 2015 All-Star Game logo

Aug 6, 2014, 11:02 AM EDT

It has a mustache:

I liked the Minnesota one better. It has a WPA/Art Deco flair to it that I love. But again, no mustache.

  1. The Bronx Bombers - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:09 AM

Considering the history of the Reds, that mustache must be roided up…

    • thomas844 - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:28 AM

Coming from a guy whose username is “Bronx Bombers,” that is incredible rich.

    • RickyB - Aug 6, 2014 at 12:08 PM

I think something else is needed besides a thumbs up or thumbs down. Craig, can you add a question mark for those that are completely befuddled by comments like this?

    • SocraticGadfly - Aug 6, 2014 at 6:50 PM

If this were two years ago, when Proctor and Gamble still owned Pringles, I’d say that was corporate branding.

Of course, the Reds could be two years behind the times in the business world.

  2. lukedunphysscienceproject - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:10 AM

    Proofread headlines please.

And for those reading this after it’s fixed- the original headline said “behold the 2014 all-star game logo”.

    • Jeremy T - Aug 6, 2014 at 12:40 PM

Still visible in the URL, for the skeptics out there

    • SocraticGadfly - Aug 6, 2014 at 6:51 PM

@Craig … does NBC need to hire a proofreader?

  3. barrywhererufrom - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:10 AM

    just like your mother trebek..

  4. mlbfan8898 - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:14 AM

    Great attention to detail Craig.

    • gloccamorra - Aug 7, 2014 at 1:32 AM

It’s ironic, since Reds players must be clean-shaven. Marge Schott wouldn’t even make an exception for Rollie Fingers’ handlebar, producing one of baseball’s most enduring quotes: “Tell Mrs. Schott I’ll shave my mustache when she shaves her dog.”

  5. misterpositivity - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:15 AM

    Is Pringles a sponsor?

    • yahmule - Aug 6, 2014 at 12:52 PM

That’s the post I was looking for!

      8~)

      • SocraticGadfly - Aug 6, 2014 at 6:53 PM

NO. (Well, I doubt it, on the grounds you’re probably thinking of.) P&G sold Pringles to Kellogg in 2012. So, unless Cincinnati has incorporated all the way to Battle Creek, Michigan, there’s no local corporate tie-in.

  6. Francisco (FC) - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:18 AM

I’m thinking of mentioning that the title should be 2015 All-Star Game logo, but what the heck you’re going to correct it anyway.

  7. bostonfrogs - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:20 AM

Nooo…not another All Star game! 1 per season is more than enough! :P

    • jarathen - Aug 6, 2014 at 12:34 PM

      It sure wasn’t from 1959-1962!

      • SocraticGadfly - Aug 6, 2014 at 6:54 PM

Good thing Bud wasn’t around then, eh? If the NL won one, and the AL the other, they’d have to play a third ASG for World Series home advantage.

  8. nvl004 - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:23 AM

Bud Norris thinks this headline is a statement about your proof-reading Craig.

  9. karlton3 - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:24 AM

    Cool.

I would have thought they would have come up with the logo before they played the game, though.

  10. renaado - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:26 AM

It’s mustacho! I believe I recognize that name somewhere before…

  11. historiophiliac - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:30 AM

    I dig it.

    • natstowngreg - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:55 AM

      Harry Wright would be pleased.

[Kids, Harry Wright founded the Cincinnati Red Stockings, the first pro baseball team, in 1869. A couple of years later, he moved to the Boston Red Stockings, which joined the National Association (later, the National League). This is your history lesson for today. Now, get off my lawn.]

    • stlouis1baseball - Aug 6, 2014 at 2:35 PM

      I dig it too.

  12. Balladeer - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:48 AM

I thought the Minnesota one was pretty awful. If you squint it kind of has the art deco thing going on, but it mostly just seems bland. I like this one quite a bit

  13. philliesblow - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:59 AM

    Stylin’. I like it.

  14. josemartez - Aug 6, 2014 at 12:01 PM

    Beauty! Easily better than Minnesota’s.

  15. beefytrout - Aug 6, 2014 at 12:05 PM

Take the flag-wave effect off the text and you’ve got yourself a damn fine logo.

  16. jotaesethegeek - Aug 6, 2014 at 12:07 PM

One of the best I have seen in a long time. The mustache makes the logo.

  17. scoutsaysweitersisabust - Aug 6, 2014 at 12:26 PM

Can’t say I dislike this logo. I don’t like most of them, but this one actually works, even with all the stupid amounts of different shades of red into it.

    • stlouis1baseball - Aug 6, 2014 at 2:47 PM

I only see two different shades of red. Which one of us is color blind?

      • scoutsaysweitersisabust - Aug 6, 2014 at 6:00 PM

Haha, probably both of us. I see the Reds Logo, the background, and the cartoon character. I think a small black border would have gone a long way here to keep the image from melding into one, but maybe that was the point.

  18. Trevor_P - Aug 6, 2014 at 1:15 PM

Heh, that’s great. Looks like a logo Old Hoss Radbourn could get behind, if he weren’t blackout drunk behind the woodshed on Kentucky moonshine.

I also like the Minnesota one, but that’s mainly because I like to imagine that silhouetted blob in the foreground is a station wagon bearing a rooftop missile launcher.

  19. playball - Aug 6, 2014 at 1:15 PM

    What’s up mustache?

  20. gosport474 - Aug 6, 2014 at 1:58 PM

Hey, my Redlegs did something right!

  21. stlouis1baseball - Aug 6, 2014 at 2:37 PM

My buddy has season tickets and we have already got everything lined up.
Not big on the home run derby. But this one is going to be something else.
I am really looking forward to all the festivities.

  22. humanexcrement - Aug 6, 2014 at 2:40 PM

Is it supposed to look like a can of Pringles?

  23. rbts2014 - Aug 6, 2014 at 3:51 PM

I would have preferred the logo to incorporate some of the unique design elements of great american ballpark, but I can live with this logo as that mustached guy is an element I can identify with the Reds.

  24. DJ MC - Aug 6, 2014 at 8:04 PM

The Minnesota logo looks nice, but it’s so generic that I’m surprised they didn’t take it straight out of Bases Loaded on NES. This at least shows you the city and team hosting.

I just want to see the 2016 ASG logo.

Ok, I really just want them to pick the damn city so I can be outraged when it isn’t Baltimore.
