Marlins reliever Kevin Gregg will miss the remainder of the season following surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.

Gregg signed a midseason minor-league deal with the Marlins and then joined the bullpen in mid-June, but he was an absolutely mess while allowing 10 runs in nine innings with a 6/5 K/BB ratio.

He was shut down shortly before the All-Star break with elbow soreness and this could be the end of the line for the 36-year-old right-hander.

I honestly didn’t know he was still in the league until just now.

When his elbow was examined, it appeared to have two small puncture wounds on it. Go ahead, call him dead. I suspect that he’ll be back in the spring, at least before the days begin getting very long.
