Manny Machado diagnosed with ligament sprain in knee

Aug 12, 2014, 7:13 PM EDT

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado underwent an MRI on Tuesday after injuring his right knee on a hard swing in the third inning of Monday night’s 11-3 victory over the Yankees. The O’s have reviewed the MRI results but aren’t offering more than a vague diagnosis until Wednesday …

A knee ligament sprain can mean any number of things — from very severe to minor — and it’s not worth attempting uninformed speculation. Machado’s right knee buckled awkwardly after he made broken-bat contact and he needed help getting down the dugout steps. MLB.com has the video from Tuesday …

Machado underwent surgery on his left knee last October to repair a torn medial patellar ligament.

MLB players get seen the next day if not the same night..Can the same be said for our veterans during Obama’s reign??

Is it computer time at the asylum?

    • sportsfan18 - Aug 12, 2014 at 8:20 PM

      @ wledlund

sad isn’t it sir when folks in this nation don’t care about the veteran’s that help keep this country safe and what it is…

God bless our troops and thank you all for your service.

But you refuse to put the blame where it really belongs.
        Clue: It’s not Obama..

Right. You might want to read up on all of the Republican obstructionism when it comes to pay for active military men as well as to pay for medical care for veterans. The Republicans are essentially giving a giant middle finger to veterans…apparently, they are not huge campaign contributors.

Rather than griping about the president, you might be better served writing to your congressman to ask him/her to support H.R.813 Putting Veterans Funding First Act of 2013. This was introduced in February 2013 by Rep. Jeff Miller (R FL Pensacola), Chair of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and has not been brought to the floor for a vote.

      • jaye411 - Aug 13, 2014 at 2:55 PM

        Sure it has bipartisan support
But it also is a ” poison pilll bill “.
This is why it hasn’t been brought up for a vote.

    • jwbiii - Aug 12, 2014 at 11:01 PM

Another note: Rep Michael Michaud (D ME Bangor), the ranking minority member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee is a co-sponsor of the bill, so it has bipartisan support.

Sports site. Please, go back on your meds.
Second: Bush, and pals cut the funding for the VA, knowing that there would be a mass
Influx of wounded coming back home. Obama has actually increased funding, but it’s not enough. You can never catch up to what was taken in the first place.

    • raym64 - Aug 15, 2014 at 7:21 PM

Umm, Va funding was decreased under the last president at the same time as starting two wars and increased under the current president. And since the funding ad been increasing before the recent VA bad news, it wasn’t just in response to that.

Too bad. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy either.

    • psuorioles - Aug 13, 2014 at 11:23 AM

And this comment is based on what? Do you personally know Manny or watch him on a daily basis, to see what type of person/player he is?

  3. theeperspective - Aug 12, 2014 at 10:02 PM

@1998yanks I sense some sarcasm. You are what real fans like to call a “sportscenter” fan. I’m guessing you assume he’s a bad guy because Skip Brainless told you he was. Enjoy missing the playoffs with one of the biggest payrolls in baseball.

    • lukedunphysscienceproject - Aug 13, 2014 at 12:33 PM

Or maybe it’s because he starts fights with players who dare to tag him out and throws bats at people.

That said, I hated seeing him get injured. This clearly is not my teams year and I think the Orioles could be primed to do something special.

  4. edelmanfanclub - Aug 12, 2014 at 10:08 PM

    Don’t tag him there.

I don’t always post on HBT, but when I do? I love to talk politics.

  6. wledlund - Aug 13, 2014 at 9:02 AM

    Lmao @pchuck

  7. beachnbaseball - Aug 13, 2014 at 11:40 AM

I’m wondering if Machado has an as yet undiagnosed medical issue with his knees. That’s 2 knee injuries in 2 years. He could be out until September.

  8. corvusrex96 - Aug 17, 2014 at 8:53 PM

This is a sports site but as a vet I will chime in on the thread. To me whether the president is a dem or repub the VA has always been a mess. Lots of red tape, underfunded and run by government workers . Kinda of like the motor vehicle administration for health care
