Orioles lose Manny Machado to another knee injury

As expected the Orioles have placed third baseman Manny Machado on the disabled list after he suffered a sprained right knee ligament Monday night.

This time around it’s his right knee, whereas Machado suffered a torn ligament in his left knee last season, but the injury certainly didn’t look pretty at the time.

In his absence–today at least–the Orioles have shifted first baseman Chris Davis across the diamond to third base, where he’s started 68 career games.

After a terrible start to the season and a suspension for tossing his bat Machado has hit .351 in 28 games since July 1, raising his OPS from .662 to .755 during that time. He posted a .746 OPS as a rookie last season.

Yikes! This could be the beginning of another Mickey Mantle, minus the drinking and having far better medical care. For the young readers, Mantle played almost his entire career with 2 bum knees and bad hamstrings. When healthy he could run as fast as the wind during a storm. Let’s hope this is not an ongoing problem for Manny. I am a long time Yankee fan but I still appreciate watching young players with talent and speed develop year after year, even if they are not in pinstripes.

I saw the injury live and it did not look good. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery from this Yankees fan.

I don’t understand why so many yankees fans feel it necessary to include their team’s name in comments about players on other teams. Just wish the kid well in his recovery and leave it at that.

Maybe it’s just reflex since everyone seems to think we are a bunch of a**h*les

      • longfootlefty - Aug 13, 2014 at 4:34 PM

Maybe everyone thinks you are a bunch of a-holes because you look for ways to mention your team when there’s no need for it and nobody cares about it.

I don’t think anyone reading this particular thread would think that I am the one acting like an a-hole.

But I’m still not a yankees fan, so I’m good with being an a-hole.

On the bright side he is already walking without crutches.

What’s scarier…the knee injury to machado or davis playing 3B?

  6. Stiller43 - Aug 13, 2014 at 5:15 PM

Its because too many fans of rival teams think “great, screw him.” Hes simply saying he’s not that type of fan.

If you dont understand that, youre an idiot in addition to being the ass hole youre proud to be.

    Next “Manny” up!

Seriously though, huge Oriole fan here wishing Manny the speediest of recoveries. I want him to be on the field enjoying the domination!
