Must-see interview: Matthew McConaughey discusses fanny packs at Fenway Park

Matthew McConaughey Matthew McConaughey

Actor Matthew McConaughey was in attendance at Fenway Park for Sunday’s series finale between the Astros and Red Sox. During the eighth inning, with the Astros leading 8-1, CSN Houston’s Julia Morales flagged McConaughey down for an interview to discuss — what else? — fanny packs.

McConaughey noted that he wears his fanny pack to the side to make it “a little not as nerdy” and predicts that fanny packs will come back in style “some decade from now”.

The Red Sox went on to lose 8-1, splitting their four-game series with the Astros.

I think he’s a bit of a strange duck, but a splendid actor, and I agree with him on fanny packs.

I would have thought that with current security on Fenway and elsewhere you could not take even a fanny pack into the park. If you can, what is the dividing line? Are REALLY big fanny packs forbidden and are small backpacks OK? I have reached the point where it is really not worth it to go to many public events.

It’s not worth it to go to many public events because you don’t know how big your fanny pack can be before they won’t let you bring it in? Interesting.

I love how they make you throw away bottled water going in for “security” purposes and then charge $6 for it in the park.

At Fenway, you can bring in a bag as long as it is not larger than 16″ x 16″ x 8″. You can also bring in sealed water bottles of 16 ounces or less

Don’t take fanny packs to the ball park, don’t take em nowhere. Throw them away. Burn them, whatever .

People that have strong opinions on fanny packs….for or against….are weird

I bought a fanny pack before I went to the Coachella music festival this year so that I could easily carry all my stuff (wallet, phone, sunscreen, something to clip my water bottle onto) and I was amazed at how many people had strangely strong opinions on fanny packs.
