    Devil’s advocate is a role I enjoy!!

It’s a stretch.. .BUT… against the top 3 teams in each division (added StL since WAS is a top 3 NL team and StL has the 4th best NL record):

    LAD 2-1
    MIL 4-1
    StL 2-5
    LAA 1-2
    BAL 1-3
    OAK 0-3

Again, not saying they are not good. They are clearly a contender. But combined 2-8 against the top 3 records in baseball, and you could also look at things like this 9 game win streak against teams the Pirates who have been struggling big time as of late, the Mets who are.. well.. the Mets, and an Arizona team nearly 20 games under .500.

The Nats aren’t exactly going out there and beating good teams. As a matter of fact, given the current standings, the Nats have played 4 of 32 second half games against teams who would be in the playoffs had they started today (2-2 in those games), and 22 of 32 against teams with losing records. I know you play who is on your schedule, but it can also be said that a record is not indicative of a team’s talent given that same fact.

Their remaining schedule gets a bit tougher with 26 of 36 games against teams with winning records. I think this portion of their schedule will be more of an indicator as to what this team is truly capable of, especially their upcoming series against the Mariners and that fierce rotation. What may help them down the home stretch is a 7 game home stand to end the regular season against the Mets and Marlins.

But again- this is a major stretch. The Nats have come on strong as of late. If they can maintain, they can very well be the top dog in the NL heading into the playoffs.

As long as they keep Bryce from doing one of hundred or more stupid things… they should be OK…

The kid is uber talented… but when one is feted that early in life, one’s mind takes it all in and now he’s finally being humbled.

Once he comes out of this humbling experience, he’ll really be scary good.

But until then, one never knows what could happen…
