Salvador Perez to have an MRI on his knee

Aug 21, 2014, 10:30 AM EDT

Royals catcher Salvador Perez left Monday’s game with some soreness in the knee. It was downplayed by the Royals and he started on Tuesday. But then he missed last night’s game. Now it’s MRI time:

I guess what I’m curious about is whether Perez was being unnecessarily tough on Tuesday and whether he should’ve rested then. But I suppose if the MRI is clear it doesn’t matter.

If it isn’t. Welp, that’s a problem, as he has been one of the more productive hitters on a team that is hungry for offense.

Careful, you can hurt your knee doing that.

MRI is negative, so I apologized to the trash can.

at least Kratz is an okay backup? Better than Brett Hayes

Maybe he wouldn’t break down as often if Yost gave him more than one day off per month. Yost is too stubborn to learn from past mistakes. Most managers seem to give their catchers a day off per week, but Yost is way more enlightened than those guys. I seem to remember him giving Jason Kendall the same sort of heavy workload a few years back. He didn’t remove him from behind the plate until the muscles in his shoulder exploded, and he wasn’t even that good.

It’s the nightmare scenario for Royals fans, as he is the most irreplaceable guy. However, the way things have been going lately it will turn out fine. As for Kratz, he is a major step down in every aspect defensively.
