Baltimore does not have a timetable yet for third baseman Manny Machado‘s return from the disabled list, manager Buck Showalter told Brittany Ghiroli of

Machado suffered a sprained right knee on August 11 and the Orioles have mostly been using Chris Davis at third base in his absence. He’s eligible to return on August 27, but that obviously won’t be happening.

Machado suffered a torn ligament in his left knee late season and struggled upon returning this year, but was hitting .351 over his last 28 games when he injured his right knee.

Thankfully the team has a big enough lead, he can take a little time coming back. Hopefully he will be able to get in before the playoffs.

Everything I’ve heard (all speculation from that fellow “unnamed sources”) points to Manny coming back no sooner than the beginning of September, so this is not exactly a major revelation for O’s fans. And I know that injuries are not all about appearances, but it IS nice to see Manny walking around perfectly fine on his leg and not gimping or hobbling. Hopefully 10 days to 2 weeks is realistic but in all honesty? Keep the division lead and get Manny back by October and I’m a happy camper.

I don’t think it is a given he won’t return the 27th. The O’s are saying as little as possible and all agree it would be stupid to rush him back, but the truth is none of us know.

We do know it is not a situation that will require surgery.
So Manny playing in the Playoffs is a given.

Chris Davis has been playing some decent third base recently. I wouldn’t mind seeing a clip of one of his diving catches at third here on HBT.

She’ll be back by the play-offs

If it was ‘she’, ‘she’d’ be playing third base with the bad knee, cooking after-game meals, and getting the tarp rolled up right.

Until you squeeze a newborn through a hole small enough to squeeze your small contribution to the matter, don’t be stupid.
