First Yu Darvish, now this. Capping off a disappointing first year with the Rangers, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is headed for season-ending surgery to remove a bone spur from his left elbow.

There were big expectations when the Rangers signed Choo to a seven-year, $130 million contract over the winter, but he ended up posting career-worsts across the board, with a .242/.340/.374 batting line to go along with 13 home runs and 40 RBI over 123 games. Some of the struggles can be blamed on an early-season ankle injury and Wilson writes that Choo has been dealing with the bone spur since spring training. It’s been that kind of year for the Rangers.

Choo still got on base at a good clip this year and it’s fair to expect better production with improved health, but he turns 33 next July and still has $116 million coming his way through 2020.

I hope we have him back soon next year, and can we please get some good news for this terrible season?

You’ll have the first overall pick in next years draft in all likeliness if that helps.

This season is a lost cause for em… Really hope Darvish and Choo can pull it out for next season and lead this team to the playoffs.

Maybe he can have Darvish’s left elbow and Darvish can have his right one?

You know, living in the shadow of the Big A, when the Texas season started going bad and Fielder wasn’t doing anything, I was glad for it meant less chance of the Rangers helping keep the Angels down. Never have liked Texas, really, any iteration going back decades. The George Bush version. But, COME ON! enough is enough baseball gods! You made them lose WS that was nearly won! STOP, already, I don’t know what they did but enough is enough!

I love all the crap Alderson got the last two offseasons for not signing Bourne and Choo. The Mets aren’t contending this year but at least they aren’t stuck with horrible long term contracts.

Jon Daniels hasn’t made the smartest moves the past couple of seasons.
