Cardinals outfielder Shane Robinson suffers shoulder injury

Cardinals outfielder Shane Robinson injured his left shoulder sliding into second base in the ninth inning Monday night and will travel back to St. Louis for further examination.

Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports that the Cardinals think Robinson suffered a partially dislocated shoulder, with manager Mike Matheny saying that “it looks like it’s in pretty bad shape.”

Now that Matheny has come to his senses regarding rookie Oscar Taveras‘ playing time Robinson was likely to spend most of September on the bench anyway, but he’s been a decent backup outfielder for St. Louis during the past three seasons and offers a lot of speed in situational roles.

I was with you until you tried to make a case for him being a decent backup outfielder. As strictly a pinch runner and defensive replacement, yes he is decent, his hitting this season has been unbelievably bad. The Cardinals have been rewarded for giving him 66 plate appearances so far with a .427 OPS. His at bats made Allen Craig look like an MVP this year in comparison.

Right, as UD said. Bring Grichuk back up.

If Shane would’ve been in the place where he belonged, then this would never have happened.
That place – of course… is in AAA.
