The Phillies announced this afternoon that team president David Montgomery will be taking a medical leave of absence while recovering from jaw cancer surgery. Taking over baseball operations in his absence: former Phillies GM and current senior advisor for the Phillies.

This has been a turbulent week for the Phillies. First with part-owner Sally Buck passing on Saturday, now Montgomery’s absence. Here’s hoping Montgomery gets well soon.

“This has been a turbulent week for the Phillies.”

I hate to be too nitpicky, Craig…..but last time I checked “week” doesn’t mean “three years”.

Jaw cancer surgery, bummer. Regardless of what one thinks of the Phillies, lets all send some good thoughts to David Montgomery in his recovery. This is some serious surgery that will be very visible should he appear in public again.

One of the kindest men you will ever meet. Get better soon David Montgomery, were all praying for you.

Everyone of good will certainly wishes the man improved health, whether through prayer or otherwise.

I hope he gets better very soon, but there’s worse people that could take over your position on an interim basis than Pat Gillick.

Jaw cancer, just slightly worse than watching the Phillies. Get well soon Monty!

Cover for firing Amaro. That way,you cant say he was fired by the “family”.

It will be interesting to see if Gillick announces an impending RAJ firing within the next month.

now can Rube take a permanent leave of absence and have pat gillick replace him too?

While I certainly wish Montgomery well, as a Phillies fan I feel better knowing that for the moment a competent man is at the helm. Quick! Fire Ruben while Monty is under sedation!
