Masahiro Tanaka experiencing “general arm soreness”

Aug 29, 2014, 4:42 PM EDT

Masahiro Tanaka AP

That stuff about Masahiro Tanaka having a great bullpen session yesterday and possibly being ready to pitch in September? Yeah, about that  . . .

Curry reports that the tentative plan was for Tanaka to throw a simulated game on Tuesday. But those plans are now on hold. In subsequent comments, Tanaka said that he was being “cautious” and that the pain could just be a function of his lack of arm strength after a layoff. But other reports are saying that the pain is focused in his forearm. Which tends to bode ill for pitchers.

That he’s not going to see a doctor is probably a good thing, but at some point soon it’s possible that the Yankees are going to have to decide if their outside shot at a chance to play a one-game play-in game is worth risking the six years remaining on his deal.

Just a matter of time before this news came out. Sorry Yanks! That dream of having a wild card starter like Tanaka to sneak into the party just took a hit. Enjoy combing the upcoming FA rosters.for your 2015 infield.

Seems like they are trying to rush him back for the wild card push.. is it worth possibly losing him for the rest of this year and all of next year?

Well, no appointments “scheduled” just means PR filler. And, where’s @BronxBombers, he of the gloating of the last week or two? And, re Icanspeel? He could wind up even having a late start to 2016.

No surprise, they should have performed the Tommy John surgery a month and a half ago, now they probably won’t get him back for the entire 2015 season.

They weren’t going to get him back anyhow in 2015. But they will have to decide fairly soon, before too long a TJ will start to impact 2016.

    Shut him down…

Geez. General arm soreness seems much more serious than Captain arm soreness and certainly Sergeant arm soreness.

    • SocraticGadfly - Aug 29, 2014 at 11:45 PM

The Cap’n never has arm soreness. Shortstops only get that from making repeated throws from in the hole.

The Captains been been in the hole more than you’ve ever dreamed about.

He should’ve tried the “general gau chicken” instead.

You can’t escape Tommy John….just get it over with

  9. droman79 - Aug 29, 2014 at 9:32 PM

Don’t understand why they wouldn’t get him checked out to be sure… Can someone explain the logic?

Means absolutely nothing. They have the best pitching staff in baseball with or without him. People say I’m being sarcastic but they literally have a quality start every single game for the past 2 months
