Jesus Montero suspended for the rest of the season due to the ice cream sandwich affair

Last Thursday night Jesus Montero and a Mariners scout got into an altercation involving shouted taunts and thrown ice cream sandwiches. Now the Mariners have taken official action with respect to Montero, suspending him for the remainder of the season. That takes him off the 40-man roster until he is reinstated.

No word if anything is going to be done with the scout. It’s worth noting, however, that GM Jack Zduriencik said that both parties in the dustup acted poorly, so his discipline may be coming soon.

Chances are he will end up with another team next year. I hear the sushi in Japan is excellent. They seem to like big burly Americans, that enjoy eating, over there.

Good call. New single season homerun champ coming up!

    • rayricespimphand - Sep 1, 2014 at 2:46 PM

Hope they like fat Venezuelans too, because he’s not a burly American.

      • apeville - Sep 1, 2014 at 6:49 PM

        He’s from the Americas.

        Good save, apeville

Ice cream abuse is no laughing matter.

I hear it’s punishable by forced rice pudding consumption in some places.

    • tearlw - Sep 1, 2014 at 4:14 PM

In Louisiana they use bread pudding. Blech.

        Hey! Cretin.

  3. Mikhel - Sep 1, 2014 at 4:50 PM

Actually Jesus Montero is an American, becase Venezuela last time I checked is in the American continent, same continent as the United States Of America (that’s why it is called “OF America”).

    • tigersfandan - Sep 1, 2014 at 7:24 PM

      There are two American continents.

WOW,whole lotta wrong in that post.If you walk it back I imagine the rating will go up.

      • historiophiliac - Sep 1, 2014 at 10:51 PM

What’s factually wrong about it? Venezuela is in the Americas, and the people there would then be Americans.

      • mitch079 - Sep 2, 2014 at 12:42 AM

They’re considered South Americans, not Americans.

  4. seattlenative57 - Sep 1, 2014 at 6:16 PM

Jesus Montero is NOT American; he is from Venezuela.

    • apeville - Sep 1, 2014 at 6:50 PM

America is not simply the United States. Just ask anybody with a handle on geography.

      • johnnysoda - Sep 1, 2014 at 10:12 PM

I think when someone is called “American”, it’s generally assumed that they’re from the United States.

      • historiophiliac - Sep 1, 2014 at 10:49 PM

Well, when someone from the United States (or Canada) calls someone an “American,” it is generally assumed that they mean a fellow Stater.

      • mitch079 - Sep 2, 2014 at 12:42 AM

        What a stupid argument.

That’s what you get when you combine ice cream with cake. Pie is much better.

  7. crushed49 - Sep 2, 2014 at 1:12 AM

And this is why Seattle needs a NHL team. Hockey players know how to fight (not to mention the hockey is actually interesting to watch)….this ice cream tantrum just pathetic!!!

    • jdillydawg - Sep 2, 2014 at 5:19 PM

I would agree Seattle needs a hockey team. But I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s more interesting to watch than baseball. Or any sport, for that matter.

      • crushed49 - Sep 3, 2014 at 12:04 PM

I’m just saying hockey is more interesting because there is always constant plays and movement on the ice going on, instead of watching 2 men play catch with an occasional awesome hit or diving catch.

And people still say nothin’ happens in Boise.

Montero did a great job his first year making that Pineda trade look like shear genius. But since that first year, he seems to be doing everything possible to make that trade look really dumb.
