Video: Melky Cabrera and the sound of thunder

Sep 4, 2014, 11:03 AM EDT

Like, literally:

Apparently the weather was as scary as heck in the Tampa Bay area yesterday. Scary even if you were in a dome.

In other news, remember a few years back when the Rays released artists’ renderings of a ballpark without a roof? That was fun. I imagine that, since then, they have acquainted themselves with Florida’s summertime weather a bit more.

Thunder only happens when it’s raining.

Players only love you when they’re playing.

Women… they will come and they will go.

Hahaha, no they won’t. We all spend all damn day commenting on sports blogs. We’re all gonna die alone.

Thanks for the link to the “giant sail” stadium pics! I was quite taken with them when they were released and now realize that, subconsciously, I have been expecting to see that park unveiled for years now. Not going to happen, sadly.

I have no idea of the viability and cost real effectiveness of that design, but it looked super cool in those water color images. No thunder suppression was in the plan for Melky’s benefit, I presume.

Like I mentioned in this morning’s ATH, I had a 110 lb dog trying to crawl on my lap thanks to that storm. Seeing Melky’s reaction makes her feel like less of a wuss.

In TB stadium news, there are apparently conversations about conversations regarding St. Petersburg allowing the Rays to talk to Tampa about a stadium per yesterday’s Tampa Bay Times:
So I guess this is progress.

My baby used to do that too. Clearly, she had some chicken in her background somewhere. Mutts.

    • November 2008: Public referendum
    • March 2009: Groundbreaking at Tropicana Field site
    • May 2009: Groundbreaking at Al Lang site
    • March 2011: First phase of Tropicana site completed, with current ballpark still on site for 2011 season
    • April 2012: New ballpark completed

If they’d have had that public referendum in August, instead of September, they likely get that new stadium. In November 2008, not even Santa Clause was being charitable.

      What about the Tropicana lease?

      • hittfamily - Sep 4, 2014 at 5:00 PM

The City of St. Pete will let them out of it if they stay in St Pete. But they won’t allow them to move to Tampa. If the Rays decided to build a new stadium right down the street, more power to them.
