    Twins outfielder Byron Buxton — rated the No. 1 prospect in the sport over the winter by MLB.com, Baseball Prospectus, and Baseball America — has appeared in only five live minor league games this season because of a left wrist injury that he initially suffered on March 16 while diving for a ball at spring training. But there’s some good news on that front.

    Jaime Garcia has made just 16 starts since the beginning of the 2013 campaign and is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery on his shoulder this week for thoracic outlet syndrome. Those facts alone would be ample reason for John Mozeliak to feel disappointed, but it sounds like a lack of communication from the 27-year-old southpaw is what’s truly bothering the normally calm and calculated general manager.

  3. Blue Jays claim Nolan Reimold off waivers from Orioles

    From MASN’s Roch Kubatko comes word that the Blue Jays have claimed outfielder Nolan Reimold off waivers from the Orioles. Reimold was designated for assignment by Baltimore last week after his 20-day minor league rehab assignment window closed.

    Another ugly season for the Mets just got uglier. According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, starting pitcher Jon Niese has been diagnosed with a strained left shoulder and placed on the 15-day disabled list.

  5. Cardinals activate second baseman Kolten Wong

    As first relayed by Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals have activated second baseman Kolten Wong from the 15-day disabled list and will bat him seventh in Sunday’s series finale against the Marlins. Shane Robinson was optioned to Triple-A Memphis to open a spot on the roster.
