We’ve heard from some people wondering whether Alfredo Aceves will accept his demotion to Triple-A. Aceves has 72 hours to report to Triple-A after the Red Sox optioned him to the minors yesterday. He hasn’t arrived in Pawtucket yet, but you can be sure he’ll get there within the time limit if only because he…

New York Mets' Valdespin celebrates after hitting grand-slam walk-off home run off Los Angeles Dodgers' Wall in MLB game in New York

Mets 7, Dodgers 3: Jordany Valdespin with a walkoff grand slam. See, good things happen when he doesn’t try to bunt. Reds 1, Cubs 0: Mat Latos tossed seven shutout innings and Broxton and Chapman finished it off. Tough luck for Jeff Samardzija who struck out eight in six innings, but he’s gonna have to get used…

Bard — who face-planted last year when the Sox attempted to make him a starter — has a 4.00 ERA with four walks and four strikeouts in nine innings so far this season.  The Sox, apparently, think he’s been throwing OK, however, and…

  16. Alfedo Aceves: “why don’t we hit?”

    Apr 24, 2013, 8:23 AM EDT

Oakland Athletics v Boston Red Sox

Alfredo Aceves gave up eight runs in three and a third innings while walking four. So I’m sure this comment about Bartolo Colon getting calls he didn’t get and the Sox’ lack of offense was well-received by his teammates: “Maybe his strike zone is not that small, for whatever reason,” Aceves said. “Also, we got our…

    Apr 10, 2013, 2:14 PM EDT

    John Lackey

Stephen Drew‘s return from a concussion meant that Jose Iglesias was out of a starting job and rather than keep the 23-year-old around as a bench player the Red Sox decided to send him back to Triple-A for regular playing time. Boston also placed John Lackey on the disabled list, which was expected after he…

    J.A. Happ

J.A. Happ probably would have opened the season as the most well-compensated pitcher in Triple-A if Ricky Romero hadn’t struggled so mightily this spring. Inserted into the Blue Jays’ rotation instead, Happ struck out six in 5 1/3 innings and combined with three relievers on a two-hit shutout of the Red Sox on Saturday. The…
