Drew Smyly has been ace-like for the Rays since they acquired him from the Tigers in the three-team David Price trade, boasting a 1.70 ERA and 0.755 WHIP in 47 2/3 frames. But this is Smyly’s first year as a full-time starter and he had already logged 105 1/3 innings for Detroit at the time of the July 31 swap, so Tampa Bay will shut him down early.
