Carl Crawford was the Dodgers’ primary left fielder prior to landing on the disabled list in late May with a left ankle sprain, but now he’s a really expensive bench player.
Jul 9, 2014, 12:46 PM EDT
Carl Crawford’s ankle injury led to Matt Kemp coming off the bench and rejoining the Dodgers’ starting lineup, but now that Crawford is ready to return it sounds like he’ll be the one on the bench most days.

There’s been lots of talk about the Dodgers having four big-name outfielders for three starting spots, but while everyone debates how manager Don Mattingly should divvy up the playing time among Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, Carl Crawford, and Andre Ethier a different outfielder has been the most productive in the bunch.

Jordan Zimmermann was on point and the Nationals have won seven of their past nine and are now tied for first place.
Jun 3, 2014, 11:17 AM EDT
Here’s how much Dodgers manager Don Mattingly is committed to keeping Matt Kemp from playing center field: Not only is Mattingly regularly playing Andre Ethier there despite his clearly being stretched range-wise, yesterday Scott Van Slyke got the nod in center field while Kemp remained in left field.

Carl Crawford suffered an ugly left ankle sprain Tuesday while chasing after a ball, so the Dodgers are rolling with Matt Kemp in left field in their series finale Wednesday night against the visiting Reds. Kemp, who had been on the bench for five straight games, last played left field as a rookie in 2006.
May 28, 2014, 10:51 AM EDT
Carl Crawford left last night’s game with a sprained ankle and is likely headed to the disabled list, which means the Dodgers are down to three healthy big-name outfielders and Matt Kemp–who sat out five straight games as a healthy scratch–is no longer relegated to bench duties.
