Ryan Braun given a thunderous standing ovation, media unhappy

Mar 31, 2014, 3:00 PM EDT

He’s at home in Milwaukee, and you can imagine that things will be quite different when he goes on the road. But for now, Ryan Braun is everyone’s darling. When he came to bat in the bottom of the first inning in this afternoon’s Braves-Brewers game, Braun received a loud, enthusiastic standing ovation from the home faithful.

As you can imagine, this disgusted people:

Of course the one thing all of those people have in common is that they are members of the media. And they’ll tell Brewers fans what they should or should not feel about Ryan Braun, I’ll tell you what.

But how about these possibilities: (1) Fans will cheer for guys wearing their laundry no matter what they do; and/or (2) fans may be fully aware of Ryan Braun’s track record but really don’t give a crap because all they want out of him and their team is a couple hours of entertainment five or six times a week.

But you’re right, media. It’s possible that they’re just stupid.

Braun tried to wreck someone’s career to protect his lie. That’s worse than the positive PED test–yet Brewers fans don’t seem to care/think about that, either.

    • koufaxmitzvah - Mar 31, 2014 at 6:19 PM

So what you’re saying is that the fact that this person whom Braun tried to destroy has no hard feelings because they had discussions and dinners means very little to you. I suppose when somebody leaks something you did or did not do to the media even though it goes against the collective bargaining agreement put into play for your supposed benefit, and one of these really charming members of the media gets in your grill about it, I’ll expect you to do the right thing.

      Awesome. We need more heroes.

If you could write a coherent sentence, I might be able to respond.

Living in Wesconsen….. I could of told you Wesconsen sports fans aren’t the brightest.

then why don’t you move? if you mess with one cheesehead you’re messing with every cheesehead. rational or not it’s cool.

  3. dillongeeescapeplan - Mar 31, 2014 at 5:15 PM

Braun might be a douche, but it’s the b####ing from reporters that makes me want to root for him.

  4. js20011041 - Mar 31, 2014 at 5:46 PM

I don’t really care about Ryan Braun and anyone’s opinion of him. I want to talk about something truly important. Why have I never heard of Britt McHenry before?

  5. suckittrebek76 - Mar 31, 2014 at 5:47 PM

Look, I’m a Brewer fan, and I cringed a bit when he got the standing ovation. He doesn’t deserve any positive reinforcement at this point. He hasn’t earned it, but I don’t think anyone should blame Brewer fans for being stupid. Giants fans always cheered Bonds as long has he was hitting a crap load of homers, even though his head was the size of a prize winning melon. So being stupid isn’t Brewer fan specific. Most fans are loud, unreasonable, and stupid.

    • lazlosother - Mar 31, 2014 at 7:16 PM

Or maybe most fans are just tired of seeing players shunned for behavior we cheered for, behavior individual teams, MLB, and the MSM encouraged for years. Brewers fans aren’t stupid, they just don’t seem to want to let Selig and the MSM use Braun to pretend they didn’t know, or that they actually cared about this crap.

I’m convinced the garbage we see from people like Passan and Plaschke is a desperate attempt to turn the focus away from their own gutlessness in this matter.

Wisconsin- not exactly the land of the mental giants……

    • happytwinsfan - Mar 31, 2014 at 8:31 PM

we gotta a rule. only people in minnesota get to say nasty things about people in wisconsin and only people in wisconsin get to say nasty things about people in minnesota. otherwise, if you mess with one cheesehead you’re not only messing with every cheesehead you’re messing with every lutefisk lover too.

We say fack the pack, they whack

These jerks are everywhere. If O.J. showed up in Buffalo, those morons would bring the house down.

Ol’ Goat Eyes still a cheater!

  9. shaggytoodle - Mar 31, 2014 at 7:04 PM

The whole thing was clusterfudge from the both sides. From the leak at the start to Braun at the finish.

Braun served his suspension, now he can play again.

What good does it do Brewers fans to stew on over the way last season ended. Everyone needs to start moving on, its a waste of energy to live in the past when there is nothing Brewer fans do about it, except look forward to this season.

  10. stercuilus65 - Mar 31, 2014 at 7:47 PM

Milwaukeee fans applaud their lying cheater and craig is outraged the media doesn’t applaud the fans.

    Cry craig cry.

  11. rgledz - Mar 31, 2014 at 7:50 PM

What do you expect from a bunch of drunk’n Sconi’s?? Those poor people live in Wisconsin for crying out loud!

  12. joerevs300 - Mar 31, 2014 at 8:07 PM

So they gave him a standing ovation. Big deal.

Ray Rice just decked his then fiance (and now wife).

Don’t tell me that on NFL Kickoff Weekend, the Baltimore Ravens fans won’t give him a huge standing ovation as he comes out of the tunnel.

There’s a big difference between superstars and the last man on the roster.

    – If the superstars can win you games and possible get you in the playoffs/a championship, fans are very, VERY quick to forgive.
    – If you’re that poor guy at 25/25 on a MLB roster, not only are you NOT getting a standing ovation, you’re getting cut.

Personally, baseball needs to ban people like Ryan Braun for life. Alas, you’ll still get 2 strikes before they finally boot you out.

Which is 2 more then any regular Joe would get before they got parked in the slammer.

  13. bluestar94 - Mar 31, 2014 at 8:20 PM

The media is unhappy? Who gives a flying f**k about the media?

  14. huskerguy - Mar 31, 2014 at 8:23 PM

The guy asked for forgiveness. I forgive him just like I forgive my kids for lying. Just like I forgave other people that did me wrong. Then I supported them to make them better, not be a judgmental prick about it.

Media is the pot calling the kettle black. The only worse liar than the media is a politician.

    • strictlythedanks - Apr 1, 2014 at 2:57 AM

speaking of pot, get it legalized.

  15. tentennies - Mar 31, 2014 at 10:30 PM

Folks will always excuse anything if they think it is to their advantage. I hope every Brewer fan is a huge Lance Armstrong fan too. Steroids, lies, intimidation, cover up, oh wait.

Most people’s proclamations are their soap boxes to display their ignorance. Brewer fans cheering = dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb!

  16. shaggytoodle - Mar 31, 2014 at 11:36 PM

Sounds like in honor of Easter people in the media want to crucify Braun

  17. eugenesaxe1 - Apr 1, 2014 at 12:21 AM

Maybe he’s the only thing Wisconsin has to cheer for.
    Wow, that’s a depressing thought.

    • o1cu812 - Apr 1, 2014 at 12:34 PM

      Final 4 Buddy

    • shaggytoodle - Apr 1, 2014 at 12:43 PM

Not as depressing as how a fair amount of people, act like they have been perfect and never made a poor choice or made a mistake in their entire life.

  18. campcouch - Apr 1, 2014 at 12:40 AM

Truth is,PEDs don’t matter. They do help increase the market value of the cheaters and the clean players who put up numbers near to theirs, but in the end not many WS have been won on the bats or arms of identified users. They should have given the team an ovation when they took the field, but to each their own.

    • Tick - Apr 1, 2014 at 2:54 PM

“If Braun played for a North East city would he still get a standing ovation?” Yes. As long as he played well, he’d get a standing ovation. Who is this woman kidding? If Hitler hit over .300 and had a 30/30 season like Braun while wearing a Phillies or Yankees jersey, the fans would give him an ovation. Every team’s fans act the same way no matter how much you want to pretend some are more savvy.
