Ryan Braun diagnosed with strained oblique

When Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun left Saturday’s game against the Cubs, he was initially diagnosed with a slight intercostal strain. However, Adam McCalvy of reports that he underwent an MRI yesterday which revealed a strained oblique.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said yesterday that Braun was expected to miss 3-5 days, but it’s unclear whether the updated diagnosis will change the tentative timeline. We’ve seen on countless occasions that oblique injuries are very unpredictable, so there’s still a chance he could end up on the disabled list if he doesn’t see improvement soon.

The Brewers will be using a depleted lineup against Michael Wacha and the Cardinals tonight, as they are also missing shortstop Jean Segura after he suffered a deep gash under his right eye when he was accidentally hit by a warm-up swing from Braun during Saturday’s game. He required plastic surgery as a result and will likely miss a few more days.

I don’t think Segura received plastic surgery. I believe he received stitches from a plastic surgeon. But plastic surgery makes Braun sound like even more of a villain, so that’s pretty funny.

I have no idea what procedures were or weren’t done on Segura, but some plastic surgeons do perform “reconstructive” surgery, for lack of a better term. For example if there were any broken bones in his face.

Seems to be conflicting reports. Earlier today reports were that Segura would need plastic surgery to repair his eye injury, but I cannot confirm that, with a perfunctory search.

Soooooo…they both got injured on that swing?

I think there is something he can take to help speed the recovery.

The brewers started out on fire, this is just a little rain on the campfire. We won’t see grey smoke until the bullpen completely falls apart. Mid may is my prediction.

Well, both Harper & Braun are on my fantasy team, so this is not good.

And yes, I know no one cares. I just needed a place to vent.

Has Braun accused the MRI of being an anti-Semitic Cubs fan yet?

Hmmm he seems to be suffering an awful lot of injuries since that positive test. Nah there couldn’t be a connection could there… ?

  11. beermakers - Apr 28, 2014 at 11:28 PM

Oh all these injuries, he’s had must be somethng… or its just that time of year where oblique strains are a bit more common…

Rub some roads on it and get back in there. There’s no cheating in baseball Braun.
